Lawreen Barber | Edmonton Area, Alberta
Hi there, my husband is a firefighter with Edmonton Fire, and I am a member of Strathcona Fire local 2461, as a Fire dispatcher. During COVID we were both so lucky to work for essential services so that we could pay our bills and support our children.
We have three kids; our daughter who is 21 had just finished her final Primary Care Paramedic practicum night shift when all practicum dates were cancelled. She won't have a graduation ceremony but she was able to complete her program!! Our son is 18, his birthday March 31st so we made the best of it, but that meant just his sisters and us for his 18th birthday party. His graduation is cancelled, which breaks my heart as his mama. He is a hard-working kid.
Then our baby, she is 12, and she is lucky to be a smart kid and be able to learn from home. She misses the socialization and friendships, but she will be fine.
We work our shifts, and we are grateful. We have our health, we can pay our bills and feed our kids. If we are needed for overtime shifts or a big event, we will go and take care of our communities.
Thank you 🙏
