Canada invokes Quarantine Act

In an effort to help contain the rapid spread of COVID-19, Health Minister Patty Hajdu announced yesterday, that the federal Quarantine Act will now be in effect.

The legislation gives the federal government broad protection measures that include everything from routine screenings conducted by quarantine officers at airports to mandatory isolation orders for travellers returning to Canada. Maximum penalties include a fine of up to $750,000 and six months in jail.
